How to Protect Digital and AI-based Business Models with Digital Patents? – CEIPI Executive IP Management Days in Strasbourg
The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) becomes bigger in all industries and opens potentials, but also raises questions for IP. What is patentable, what are the relevant judicial decisions regarding AI and what is the current practice in Europe to protect digital business models? To address these topics, the chances for businesses and the role of IP within, the CEIPI Executive IP Management Days provide insight into actual best practice approaches with brand new business case studies directly from the industry.
Processing big data is the fundamental part of machine learning. This means that the questions regarding data ownership might emerge as critical issues. Who owns the IP in the datasets used to train the system? What are the recent experiences with the EPO examination practice and what are the global trends for protecting AI-based technologies and business models?
This program is dedicated to train IP management executives in industry and institutions. Since 2006 the MIPLM program educates IP management skills to IP experts from all over the world by means of concrete best practice case studies from different industries. The examples range from Hansgrohe for introducing IP-design in the development of new showering experiences with RainTunes (B-to-C-case) to Doka/Umdasch Group Ventures with the digitization and industrialization in the traditional and conservative building industry with Concremote® (B-to-B-case). The workshop’s aim is to provide insight into industry specific aspects of the use of IP and artificial intelligence. Finally, will be explained how Rittal was able to protect a digital twin for Industry 4.0 within the switch gear cabinet manufacturing with an integrated value chain.
