When we want to calculate a concrete royalty rate for our valuation, then we have to model the royalty rates, because the royalty rates reflect the licensing situation and the usage situation and are the cornerstone of a valuation model. There, we can integrate portfolio related valuation factors, which determine how good the given legal exclusivity is based on the patent portfolio. When we have a portfolio, the coherence of that portfolio, the potential to be circumvented, citations, product and process correlations are examples of this kind of portfolio related aspects. We should also integrate technology factors like the life cycle of the technology, the technological competencies, the relevance of that technology and the relevance of standards.
