Atos legal department is known as being very active in embracing new technologies and promoting creativity and innovation to offer a strong support to all Atos businesses. As part of the corporate functions, the Intellectual Property Department is working with all businesses and especially the R&D of Atos to protect Atos innovation, and to support any kind of operations involving IP (M&A, licensing, partnerships). The core IP owned by the company encompasses all legal titles like trademarks, domain names, copyrights, trade secrets, patents and related topics. The IP department’s role also requires to look ahead and to anticipate IP issues and/or opportunities, for example, ownership of results acquired through AI or legal protection of (non-private) data.

As part of its current reorganization, the former IP department shall move into a separate company and Atos shall seek to build its own IP department going forward adapted to its new scope of operations. Therefore, the following two positions are opening:

Head of Intellectual Property

This position will report to the Group Legal Counsel and can be based in various locations in Europe, as per the candidates’ preference, notably in France, UK, Germany or the Netherlands.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Build and develop strong interactions with the management, CTOs and other key partners;
  • Understand the competitive landscape of Atos and/or partners;
  • Advise on a broad range of intellectual property matters, with a special focus on digital;
  • Advise on the management of world-wide known trademark, domains and patent portfolios;
  • Set up standard processes in regards with trade secrets and open source management and new areas of IP such as data management;
  • Drive the development of the intellectual property rights (IPR) portfolios of Atos across the different divisions so they can deliver value;
  • Represent Atos in intellectual property litigation and coordinate external counsel;
  • Advise on transactional matters; drafting and negotiating on complex intellectual property transfers and licenses;
  • Contribute your expertise on intellectual property strategy and laws, knowledge and/or understanding of the Atos portfolio and/or the Atos competitive positioning to all IP related activities to be handled by the IP department alone or in support of other legal functions (M&A, licensing, partnerships, litigation …);
  • Budget, team and projects management.

We expect the successful candidate to bring:

  • A legal degree and a specialized degree in IP/IT law and management, other degrees such as in finance are a plus;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, analytical capability and a proactive, results-driven approach;
  • Proven ability to work with outside counsel optimally – Experience working in a global environment;
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring a good communication within their team;
  • Proficiency in English and working knowledge of French, German or Italian would be a plus.

IP Legal Expert

This position will report to the newly appointed Head of IP and can be based in various locations in Europe, as per the candidates preference, notably in France, UK, Germany or the Netherlands.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of IP on strategic matters.
  • Advise on transactional matters; draft and negotiate complex intellectual property-related agreements;
  • Manage IP portfolios notably for patents, trademarks, domains.
  • Advise on a broad range of cutting-edge intellectual property matters, with a special focus on digital;
  • Help to set up operating processes and notably best practices in regards with trade secrets and open source management and new areas of IP such as data management;
  • Contribute expertise to all IP related activities to be handled by the IP department alone or in support of other legal functions (M&A, sales, procurement, partnerships, litigation …);

We expect the successful candidate to bring: 

  • A legal degree and a specialized degree in IP/IT law and management,
  • Excellent communication skills, analytical capability and a proactive, results-driven approach;
  • Eagerness to learn and keen to work in a global environment;
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy while ensuring a good communication with his/her principal and other functions;
  • Fluency in English and ability to work in French, German or Italian would be a plus.
