Many IP experts in the IP community at I3PM, the HTB-EPO initiative, and other global IP offices and institutions in national and regional innovation systems have asked Prof. Alexander Wurzer: “Where can you be sure not to miss any important IP management content?”. In fact, you have to follow a number of interesting feeds to really keep up with the global developments around IP management. To make this easier he decided to offer his own personal newsletter for IP management. Here you can find the last issues in the archive and also subscribe. A fresh read with all the important IP Management content will be sent to the subscribers every second Thursday at 7.00 (CET), so you can start your day informed.

The next Newsletter will cover the following topics:

The highlights of the revised Patent Law Implementing Rules of China

The new Rules for the Implementation of Patent Law (hereinafter referred to as “the Rules”) came into force on January 20, 2024. There are many amendments in the new Rules, and I have summarized the need-to-know points for your reference.

IP experts behind the case: Mark Carmody & OncoMark

OncoMark, an Ireland-based biotechnology start-up, is pioneer in developing a multi-parameter prognostic test named OncoMasTR for diagnosis of breast cancer. The OncoMasTR was developed by collaboration between Prof. Adrian Bracken at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and Prof. William Gallagher at University College Dublin (UCD) in 2012. Poorti Joshi interviewed the patent attorney behind the case Mark Carmody on the role of IP for start-ups in diagnostic technologies.

The value of data

More and more companies are adopting data-driven business models and are recognising the value that data brings to their operations. This also creates a new need to valuate the companies’ data in order to better understand the value of the data assets they own, share or transfer.

Please read the interview with Kevin Garwood, graduate of our IP Valuation Course at the CEIPI, on the value of data and the need to know it.

Process Management

In businesses, like in every organization, where many people are working together in different roles, work is distributed between the individual employees and departments in the form of processes. These processes are needed that everyone fulfils their role in the business, in sales, in product development in IP etc. Since the degree of specialization in the workforce is ever increasing this separation of roles within a company and the creation of processes to organize the work between the different departments becomes more and more important. Without good and well-defined processes effective and efficient workflows within a company would not exist.
