Digitalization is a game-changer in each and every industry. Sooner or later each business eco-systems underlies a digital transformation. This tendency has strong consequences for IP and especially patent strategies of affected enterprises. So, an analysis of the current best practice in industry is vital to understand the role of IP in Industry 4.0. This was also the key topic of the global webinar hosted by the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesks on 25.11.2020, which explored the patent activities and strategies of companies in the Industry 4.0. The webinar in English was a cooperation between the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk and the IP Management education at CEIPI.

In the webinar, the successful methods of IP-Management and IP-Design were demonstrated using best practice examples. Examples of AI-based advertising with Mirriad and the digitization of sales processes at Thyssenkrupp were shown. The targeted generation and use of IP in digital business models was motivated with the Hilti and Heraeus Amloy case studies. Finally, also an in-depth analysis of the IP strategy of Rittal and the digitalization of the switchgear construction was presented. Participants from Europe and South-East Asia registered for the webinar to learn about the modern practices of IP management and received an overview of the state of IP Management. Lecturer was Dr. Alexander J. Wurzer, Professor of IP Management at CEIPI, University of Strasbourg, and Head of the IP Management Education.
